The New York State Society of Professional Engineers, Inc. is proud to announce its involvement as a sponsor for the Finger Lakes First Lego League Challenge. The FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a competitive and educational program which challenges youth, ages 9 to 14, to think like scientists and engineers. Participants will form teams to build, program, and test an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS. These self-guided robots will be challenged to solve a set of missions in a Robot Game. The event that NYSSPE is sponsoring will be held at the University of Rochester on December 7th.
Alongside adult mentors, FLL teams will collaborate and use engineering concepts, presentation techniques, and LEGO robots to solve their tasks. This alliance between FIRST and the LEGO company encourages students to explore the exciting and challenging world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
The themed challenged this year is called World Class. FLL teams will find answers to the future of learning. In the 2014 FLL World Class Challenge, over 265,000 children from 80 countries will redesign how knowledge and skills are gathered in the 21st century. Teams will teach adults about the ways that kids need and want to learn.
