The Engineering Symposium in Rochester, headed by the Monroe Chapter of NYSSPE, held its 11th annual event on April 29, 2015. A record-breaking 430 engineers attended the event at the Radisson Hotel in Downtown Rochester, NY. The Symposium featured 37 seminars across six engineering disciplines. The event was cosponsored by several local engineering society chapters including RES, ASCE, ASME, ASPE, ASHRAE, EAWNY, NYSATE, IEEE, & IES. Part of those attending included a number of engineering students from the local Finger Lakes Community College.
The keynote speaker at the event was Peter C. DeMarco, president and founder of Priority Thinking. His ethics-based seminar, “The Priorities of Getting it Right and Getting Along,” features real-time polling of the audience for demographics and ethical-based questions. Other seminars covered topics such as Additive Manufacturing, Carbon Reduction, Design-Build Lessons Learned, Hazardous Materials Management, Vehicular Collision Avoidance Systems, and NYS Building Codes. The event concluded with a cocktails and conversation hour in the Radisson Lounge. Preparation is already under way for next year’s event with even larger attendance anticipated.
