EPA Proposed Rule Could Benefit PEs In All States

A recent notice of proposed rulemaking published by the EPA’s Office of Land and Emergency Management could have a very positive impact on PEs across the nation. Specifically, the proposed EPA rule, recognizing the PE’s foremost responsibility to protect the public health, safety and welfare, seeks to modify the current regulations regarding Risk Management Programs (RMPs). The regulation seeks comment on whether PEs are best qualified to perform auditing services at chemical facilities that distribute and handle hazardous chemicals. The comment also seeks to determine if other professionals are needed and if there are enough PEs.
