It is with regret that we announce the passing of Nicholas J. Bartilucci on July 17, 2016. Mr. Bartilucci was an icon in the engineering world and a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers for over 53 years. In 1986, Mr. Bartilucci was selected as “Engineer of the Year” by the Nassau County Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers. He has also received the Distinguished Service and Community Service Awards from NYSSPE.
Bartilucci was the former President and Chairman of the Board of Dvirka and Bartilucci Consulting Engineers. His professional experience spanned over fifty years in civil and environmental engineering. Bartilucci graduated from Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and received his master of Civil Engineering from New York University. He admirably served in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps in the Panama Canal Zone.
The photos shown were taken at the New York Water Environmental Association (NYWEA) Spring Meeting in Hauppauge in 2014. Here, Mr. Bartilucci (top picture) received a standing ovation from the members present as the NYWEA Board of Directors created the Nicholas J. Bartilucci Environmental Scholarship. He was able to present the very first $5,000 scholarship in his name to Reva Butentsky (lower photo, center). Mr. Bartilucci’s service to the Association has been an important part of the organizations programmatic and financial success. He is remembered as a true mentor and an exemplary leader.
