The Engineering Body of Knowledge, First Edition, 2013, is a publication which shall serve as the common intellectual ground for all Professional Engineers, regardless of employment or engineering discipline. It is officially defined as the depth and breadth of knowledge, skills, and attitudes appropriate to enter practice as a Professional Engineer, and it reminds us that as engineering professionals, the public health, safety, and welfare are our responsibilities.
The three fundamental “capabilities” of Professional Engineers that are necessary for entry into the practice of engineering as a P.E. include knowledge consisting of comprehension of theories, principles, and fundamentals, skills which allow tasks to be performed and knowledge to be applied, and attitudes which define the response one feels and experiences to a variety of situations.
