The Professional Engineers in Private Practice (PEPP) Young Engineers Advisory Council (YEAC) committee is made up of National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) members under the age of 35 that work in the private practice division.
Each year, PEPP YEAC members select one or more projects to focus on throughout the year. The projects are designed to help young engineers in developing their leadership skills and become better engineers or help seasoned engineers learn how to help mentor and motivate young engineers. Through a series of monthly conference calls, the group works as a team to develop this project into something to benefit young engineers, PEPP and NSPE as a whole.
The New York State Society of Professional Engineers is proud to announce that this year one of our members Nikhil Bodhankar, PE will serve as the YEAC Vice Chair.
Mr. Bodhankar is a Senior Electrical Engineer at SMRT, Inc. where he applies his knowledge to design systems and technologies that improve the quality, efficiency and safety of electrical systems that ensures public safety in major public domains such as Research Institutions, Education, Utility, Industrial, Transportation, Aviation, Healthcare and Renewable Energy generation. His research on functionally integrated reactive surface technologies was presented at the Nunan Research Symposium in 2006. Another paper, “Short Circuit Fault Analysis and Calculations,” was published in Electrical Construction & Maintenance magazine in 2011. He also authored an opinion article in 2012 on “Engineering needs to change public perception,” which was published in PE Magazine, a National Society of Professional Engineers publication. In this article he argued that engineering needs to redefine itself in order to attract top American talent. In 2012, he was selected as the National American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) award winner. Mr. Bodhankar is involved in giving back to the community. He volunteered during the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts by providing free engineering electrical evaluation and estimates to homeowners in Schoharie County. He serves on Future Cities design teams, promoting middle school age children toward careers in engineering. Mr. Bodhankar is a Senior IEEE member and a full member with Sigma Xi, a scientific research society.
We wish Mr. Bodhankar all the best in his new role as we believe that the YEAC is a very important committee in the development of our NSPE younger members.
