John Walton Angstadt, of Clarence Center, a retired mechanical engineer, died Thursday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. He was 100 years old.
Born in Kutztown, Pa., he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1937 from Pennsylvania State University, where he played clarinet in the band. Mr. Angstadt began working the Buflovak Equipment Division of Blaw-Knox Co. in 1938, made a number of design and manufacturing improvements and held several patents. He became vice president for engineering in 1977 and retired in 1980.
He was a life member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the New York State Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He also was a member of Master Builder Lodge 911, F&AM, for more than 50 years.
His wife of 53 years, the former Jean Malloy, died in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ellen Rogers; two sons, Richard I. and David M.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10a.m. Friday in Clarence Center United Methodist Church, 9750 Clarence Center Road.
